Project 2

Location  Rohitvas, Modej, Kheda, Taluka: Mahemdavad, Gujarat, India

Status   Completed – May 2016
Challenge  Somabhai, a widower and father of 2 daughters. One is 16 years of age and is in 10th grade. His second daughter is aged 8 and is in 3rd grade. He is also the support for his visually challenged mother. Somabhai has a shorter and weaker right leg due to polio. He mends and polishes shoes for a living. His mile long commute to his work place is daunting due to his condition. But even harder for him is that since his home has no washroom facility, he and all the women of the house have to go away from home, to an open area during times of low visibility to relieve themselves. Apart from that it is also a safety issue for the young girls to be out in the darker hours of the day in a secluded spot.

Solution    A new washroom facility in home would not only provide some dignity to Somabhai and family but will also provide a safer option to them to attend to a nature call.

Costs   25,000 Rupees
Helping Hands  Hanif Sindhi, Siraj Sindhi, Amitu Mehta, Ankita Maharaj, Vishnu Maharaj
